At the time where I am writing this post, Peter Sauber is heavily visible in the press across the globe due to his uncertain situation with his engagement in the Formula 1. Some days ago, Peter Sauber got the agreement from BMW to buy back his team he founded himself back in 1991 and sold it to BMW in 2005.

But the book is not here for that purpose, it is here because of Peter Sauber’s past:

The book tells the very amusing and interesting story of Peter Sauber starting from marrying Christiane at the age of 22.
Who would have believed those days that Peter’s cars would once race at Le Mans and take home a double overall victory in 1989! Beating Hans-Joachim Stuck’s Porsche 962C as well as Jaguar’s Silk Cut XJR-9LM!!!!
You can watch this victory on DVD: Le Mans 1989.

To give an idea of the book covering Peter Sauber’s Pre-Formula 1 history, some excerpts:

At the age of 26, Peter Sauber built his first car quickly known as the “cheese slice” (“Käseschnitte”) in 1969:
This is how it looked like… built on a VW Käfer Chassis:

Peter has won the “Klub-Meisterschaft des Formel-Rennsportclubs” in Switzerland. This initial success at the age of 26 brought Peter to the next step: Build the first real race car, the Sauber C1 (1970).
C was standing for Christiane of course…
C1

Sauber C2 (1971) also called “Kastentür” (cupboard door):
C2

Sauber C3 (1973):

Sauber C5 (1976):

Sauber C8 (1985) Group C Le Mans Racer driven by Henri Pescarolo:

Sauber C9 (1987) Group C Le Mans Racer:

And then there it was… the unexpected double victory at Le Mans 1989 with the C9 racer.
Funny side remark: The Sauber Team did not have any Champagne to celebrate but were lucky to get some from the Jaguar Team that thought their win would be granted…!

Sauber C11 (1990) Group C Le Mans Racer:
C11

The C11 was the first car that did not drive anymore under the brand “Sauber-Mercedes”. Instead it was run under “Mercedes-Benz” but Peter Sauber was the man behind the fully new construction of this car.

Mercedes supported young drivers among which Michael Schumacher was one of them:
