More Car Details
RSR? 'RS' stands for 'Rennsport' which identifies the road models. The additional 'R' stands for 'Racing' in the sense of 'race model, not allowed to drive on normal roads'. The first 'Racing' model of this type was introduced in 1999 by the Porsche 996 GT3-R.

A new model in 2010? Looking at the past, Porsche introduced the 996 GT3-RS in 2001 and the 996 GT3-RSR in 2004. Again three years later Porsche presented the 997 GT3-RSR. Some weeks ago, Porsche presented the 2010 road model 911 GT3... what next?

The first Porsche 997 GT3 RSR was presented in 2007 and was launched into the new model year in 2008 with extensive modifications. The most powerful race car based on the Porsche 911, which already scored many wins at the 24 hour races of Le Mans and Spa as well as overall victory at the Nuerburgring 24 hours, competes in the GT2 class at international long distance races (e.g. ALMS). The most distinguishing feature of the new GT3 RSR is the front end which received major improvements to the aerodynamics. The majority of innovations however are hidden under the weight-optimised body.

Porsche supports racing teams with its works drivers, e.g. Patrick Long and Joerg Bergmeister at Flying Lizard Motorsports. Other famous teams driving the Porsche GT3 RSR are Farnbacher Loles, IMSA Perfornance Matmut and Felbermayr Proton.

Model Update 2009: Porsche 997 GT3 RSR Evo '09:
