In 2003, after 73 years since Bentley’s last win at Le Mans, two Bentley Speed 8 entered the epic 24-hour endurance race in the LMP1 class with the only target to win the overall victory!
At 4pm on Saturday June 14 (1h after the race start) the race began with the two Bentley’s taking the lead. The number 7 car put in consistent laps, while the number 8 car set the fastest lap of the race.
Bentley #7 was driven by Dindo Rinaldo Capell, Tom Kristensen and Guy Smith while
Bentley #8 was driven by David Brabham, Johnny Herbert and Mark Blundell.

Audi itself did not field a works team after three consecutive wins (2000-2002), however several privateers did use the R8 racer and ended on 3rd and 4th place. But as the engine from the Speed8 Bentley was actually an Audi engine, the victory is somehow counted as Audi win too so this is why people often speak from the Audi domination from 2000 throughout 2008!
The GT class was mainly featuring Ferrari versus Corvette in the GTS class (kind of GT1) and the newly introduced Ferrari 360 GTC Modena versus the Porsche 911 GT3-RS (the predecessor of today’s GT3-RSR).
All in all, a really great movie with spectacular sounds of that 100% non-Diesel race :-)
