Porsche 917 x 17

Rating = 5
2009-Nov-01 Focus of the book: I can only say "The 917 by Jeff Zwart"

For those of you remembering my description of the book "Porsche Rennsport" by Jeff Zwart, it should be clear what I meant by the focus above: The most beautiful artistic studio photopraphs in front of black background, thick photo paper and the best quality you can get in book form!

Porsche 917: Archiv 1968 - 1975

Rating = 5
2009-Oct-19 Focus of the book: The technical construction of the Porsche 917.

Compared to all other books about the Porsche 917, this one has been written by one of the engineers that designed and constructed the well known racer. As a result the whole book is focusing on the construction and provides by far the richest details about the car. The large scale drawings are certainly one of the most impressive parts of the book. Additionally the book is based on Porsche archive materials only and also includes photographs that have never been shown to public so far.

Races Faces Places

Rating = 4
2009-Jun-01 Focus of the book: Michael Cooper was a busy photographer of motor racing in the 1960’s, covering everything from F1 to sports car racing, capturing traditional-style photographs of cars but also many rather unusual images of drivers, team managers, marshals and spectators, showing the glamour (or not) of the locations the races were taking place. Details
Porsche 917 - The Complete Photographic History

Rating = 4
2009-May-21 Focus of the book: As the title claims, full photographic coverage of the 917 including predecessor and successor models.

This was the third book I bought about the Porsche 917.

Rating = 3
2008-Dec-01 This book by Thomas Voigt covers the 24h of Le Mans, the Le Mans Series (LMS), the American Le Mans Series (ALMS), the ADAC GT Masters as well as some FIA GT events. All in all I liked the 200 pages overview very much about these special kind of race events. Details
Porsche 917: Die Helden, die Siege, der Mythos

Rating = 3
2008-Nov-24 (2nd edition, +25 pages!) Focus of the book: Historical background stories, drivers, teams.
This book is not only about the car but also very much about its drivers, events and the fascinating stories around its development. Compared to the book "Porsche 917 - Eine Erfolgsgeschichte" by the HEEL press, it does not cover all variations of each model but rather focuses on giving you the full historical chronology of the car. It reads more than a story than a technical book.

DTM Jahrbuch 2008

Rating = 2
2008-Nov-10 The book as such is not of big value but if you have visited one of the DTM races you might like this kind of yearbook covering all stories around the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) of a whole season. So the book is here just to let you know that DTM got its yearbook too. Details
Grüne Hölle 2008

Rating = 2
2008-Nov-05 Focus of the book: Obviously this book focuses on all the races in 2008 that took place at the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany. The book is far from being valuable in the sense of a real milestone in my library but having one example of this series is fine for me and gives some nice informations about each type of race that takes place at the Nordschleife. Unfortunately the reader is not informed about the real details that everybody would like to know... on the other hand it is also very cheap, so I didn't mind much. Details
24 Stunden Nürburgring Nordschleife 2008

Rating = 3
2008_Sep-01 The book as such is certainly not a jewel in my race book library, too much advertisment are placed across the book but nonetheless having one example of this kind is ok. Timo Bernhard, Marc Lieb, Romain Dumas und Marcel Tiemann did win again after their success in 2007 with the Manthey-Porsche GT3 RSR. Details
Steve McQueen by William Claxton

Rating = 3
2008-Aug-15 Although William Claxton was most noted for his photography of jazz musicians including Chet Baker, he also did some photo series with celebrities and among these works the one about Steve McQueen became most famous. The book is of great quality (print and paper, as usual for TASCHEN books) and due to its 25th anniversary it only costs about 10 Euros at the moment. Details

Price Tag: I payed 40 Euros, now it is about 20 only! Details

Porsche Rennsport

Rating = 5
2007-Dec-01 The dramatic shapes of Porsche's most successful sports cars are the subjects of this book by renowned photographer and Porsche racer Jeff Zwart. During a Reunion at Daytona International Speedway Jeff constructed a temporary studio to photograph more than 125 cars. Every sports-car model type from every decade is represented, from the first Porsche built in 1948 (356-001) through the 2004 GT3 RSR. Each chapter is introduced by a factory driver from that period, which includes Herbert Linge, Dan Gurney, Brian Redman, Derek Bell, Hurley Haywood, and Sascha Maassen. La Suisse et les 24 Heures du Mans (Tome 2)

Rating = 5
2007-Jul-01 Unfortunately this book is available only in french but for me a good and motivating occasion to refresh my four years of french lessons at school. However: A Must-Have if you have already part one. Details
La Suisse et les 24 Heures du Mans (Tome 1)

Rating = 5
2007-Jun-01 The book is not chronologically going through the years at Le Mans but rather focuses on key Swiss engagements of drivers, teams and other racing related people.

The book is actually delivered in two parts (Tome 1 and 2) and comes in really great quality (paper, print, photos): Over 600 pages and many many rare photos (over 1400 in total!). The picture on the cover of "Tome 1" shows Jo 'Seppi' Siffert at Le Mans 1969 photographed by his sister Adélaïde Siffert.

Absolutely awesome book!

Porsche 911 GT3 RSR - Limited Edition

Rating = 4
2007-May-07 When I was live at Le Mans 2008 watching the 24 hours race I knew very soon that my biggest enthusiasm was aimed at the Porsche GT3 RSRs and above all those driven by the Flying Lizard Team. If you are equally thrilled by the beautiful shape and the typical dense sound of the 911, this book is made for you. It's expensive... but once you hold it in your hands, you'll never regret it! It features large fold-out photos as well as transparent pages with handwritten text by Porsche representatives. Details
Vergessene Rennstrecken: Traditionskurse in Europa

Rating = 4
The book is fully written in german, therefore this summary is kept in german too:

Rating = 5
2004-Oct-01 At the time where I wrote this post (02-Dec-2009), Peter Sauber was heavily discussed in the press as of his uncertain situation with his Formula 1 Team in Hinwil. Some days before, Peter Sauber got the agreement from BMW to buy back the team he founded himself back in 1991 and sold it to BMW in 2005.

But the book is not here for that purpose! It is here because of Peter Sauber's past. Click on details to know why...
