New in 2010 for the American Le Mans Series ALMS:
- ALMS races got new rules and new car classes. These apply to all races of ALMS except for the 12h of Sebring and the 10h of Petit Le Mans (Road Atlanta): these races will continue to adhere to the ACO technical rules for LMP1 and LMP2. GT will be merged (see below).
- LMP: Merged classes LMP1 and LMP2 into a single class called “LMP“.
Exception: 12h Sebring, Petit Le Mans: these races run with original A.C.O. rules (24h Le Mans) - Summary of LMP Class: Former LMP1 get 5% increased air restrictors, LMP2 can load 90 instead of 80 liters and are allowed to continue to drive with the 2 meter spoilers.
- GT: Merged classes GT1 and GT2 into a single class called “GT” (Grand Touring).
Rules for “GT” are identical to the former LMGT2 class. - LMPC: New class LMPC (Le Mans Prototype Challenge) = Formula Le Mans series in Europe
- GTC: New class GTC (Grand Touring Challenge) = kind of GT3, e.g. Porsche GT3 Cup is eligible
- Acura: new car ARX-01c for the new merged LMP class.
- 12h Sebring:
- Audi does not start (as of very late rule changes)
- The rules are the same as Le Mans 2010
