This new Endurance Racing Event called Asian Le Mans Series (AsLMS) introduced by the A.C.O. is taking place for the first time this year in Japan, Okayama. Originally multiple events have been planned for the AsLMS 2009 but due to the financial crisis it was reduced to one single event in 2009.
As it is an official A.C.O. event, the overall winners of each class get automatically invited to the 24 hours race of Le Mans 2010. As this season has been reduced to a single race, an invitation to Le Mans can be achieved by winning just a single race which was very attractive for many teams.
Therefore many makes are present at this race:
GT2: BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, Ford and Aston Martin
GT1: Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Saleen
Prototypes: Aston Martin (!), Audi (Kolles with R10), Pescarolo…
